Common Sense Solutions for Slow Play

  1. Good points about how to speed play, Dawn. To get your message out and gather productive feedback easier, it would be helpful to see your starter list in writing, too, rather than only video. I believe courses could do a lot to speed play, beyond just sending tgd ranger out. Time clocks at milestone holes with small incentives (like discounts or points) might help - and the course gains from better throughput rates, too. Having "forward tee players" go when safe, then move back or aside for longer-hitting members of the tee group also does work, though it is unconventional.

  2. Three biggest problems I see: (1) A 30 handicapper does not need to know if it is 105 or 110 yards to the pin. I know because as a 9, It's more detail than I need! (2) Go to you ball and be ready to play. The first ready to play should play, whether you are the furthest away or not (unless you are playing match play). (3) Lining up putts: Come ON MAN. A 30 handicapper does not need to walk around the entire hold, plumb bob, and miss a 3 footer. (4) If you are in a cart with a partner, do just as you suggested: walk forward, take your clubs, hit when ready. Oy already!
